First Ever Parsley's Pics Award Goes To . . . .

Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. Yep, a Republican.

Graham was the only Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee to have the courage to break away from the GOB - Good Ole Boys - to endorse Sonia Sotomayor's nomination for the Supreme Court. This had to take a lot of guts while sitting next to Jeff Sessions, Alabama; Tom Coburn, Oklahoma; Orrin Hatch, Utah; Charles E. Grassley, Iowa; Jon Kyl, Arizona; and John Cornyn, Texas - six very angry, ignorant, petty men.

From the New York Times.

  1. I'm sure you've heard this by now too, but I can't help but repeat it just because... The Redneck in the Red Plaid Shirt (Lamar Alexander (R - TN) for anyone who didn't see his ridiculous run for president in the 1996 GOP primary) has come out in favor of Sotomayor as well. He's the #3 Republican in the Senate, so this is actually a big deal.

  2. I don't have a lot of love for Alexander and I do remember that he voted for Sotomayor's confirmation while Corker the Dorker voted against. In this case, though, Graham was on the Judiciary Committee while Alexander wasn't and this was before the full Senate vote.

  3. Well, I can't stand the man. I wrote him about the EFCA when it was still on the table and his reply was condescending and asinine... but at least he or his staff actually read my email. Corker, or his staff, replied with a half-assed form reply suggesting they had no idea what I wrote.

I give Alexander credit for that and for his decision not only to vote for Sotomayor but also for his statement about the role of the president in making appointments after winning an election. That's the kind of slap the Sessions' and McConnels of the GOP need. And the Corkers.
