The close finish by Clinton, named by 16% in the open-ended survey, and Palin, named by 15%, reflects the nation's partisan divide. Clinton was cited by nearly 3 in 10 Democrats but only 6% of Republicans, Palin by a third of Republicans but less than 1% of Democrats.
President Barack Obama is the landslide winner among men for the second time, with 30% of Americans naming him as the Most Admired Man this year. Obama won last year with 32%, and both totals are among the highest Gallup has measured for a winner, with George W. Bush's 39% in 2001 remaining the all-time high for Most Admired Man.
USA Today and Gallup provide charts as well as other analysis. They point out that the president's figures are interesting in light of declining approval ratings.
like I told BJ, I'm not liking the results of this poll. It is chilling to see Palin come in 2nd and Bush 2nd amomg men, but for Bush it must be because of his silence this year compared to the evil Cheney and his big mouth!
ReplyDeleteFigure that fundamentalists are around 20% of the population. That would account for the number of votes Palin, Bush, and Beck got. The votes of the normal people were split more ways, among the larger number of non-loony individuals on the list.

Thanks, Infidel. You know me and numbers - not a good thing. The article does mention that "Clinton still ranks among the leaders among Republicans, while Palin barely registers any mentions from Democrats." (Not my writing which maybe why I didn't pick up on it.)

If we can look at the Palin phenomena without judging her on the basis of intelligence, her story is one of modern American success.

They all achieved fame with little intelligence and no discernable talent. Sarah Palin has taken this a step further. Her lack of intelligence and talent has many equally ignorant fools talking about her as a presidential candidate.
She got around 7 million to write a book that has been exposed as full of lies and plain bullshit. But she's still famous and loved by many.
She is the benefactor of low standards and thus deserves her accolades. Any country that half the people that voted, voted for Bush twice, has got to have some low standards. Palin has lived up (down) to them admirably.
