Michael Moore's Letter: A Different Perspective

In case you missed it, Crooks and Liars takes Michael Moore to task for rewriting history in his open letter to President Obama. They offer up a video of a speech candidate Barack Obama gave during his campaign to back their claim. Text is included.

At about the 17:30 mark Obama pledges to "finish the fight in Afghanistan."

  2. Peace, but I have to confess that I'm really struggling with this. Infidel and Truth have posted some interesting/challenging essays. I'm not thrilled with the idea, yet he did say he was going to do this during the campaign. While that doesn't make it any easier, it's another one of those left-overs from Bush. After 911 he should not have lied and he should have gone after Bin Laden in the first place. Once again we're faced with cleaning up his mess - and a very costly one in terms of lives and money.

  3. The fundamental foreign policy commentary of both the Kerry campaign in 2004 and the Obama campaign in 2008 was not 'war bad' but rather 'Iraq war bad, Afghan war good, Iraq war detrimental to Afghan war.'

Now, there are serious policy questions to be raised about how the administration is prosecuting the Afghan war and what the aims of military operations should be... or even if we should continue them at all.

However, this is precisely what the president promised and to say otherwise is falling into either foolishness or intellectual dishonesty. I don't think Michael Moore is a fool, so I'm a bit disappointed in him.
