  2. This was history in the making.. I loved every minute of it.. He really talked to them and set them straight.. We really have a good President... I am not ashamed to say I admire him and his intelligence.

  3. He didn't meet with them to impress us, or to convince Republicans, he was after the independents, he wants them back, and he got them.

  4. Holte makes a good point. I think, too, Obama wanted to raise the stakes for Republicans in completely refusing to go along with anything he and Democrats want to do. His appearance sends an emphatic message: "You see, I've gone way out of my way to be reasonable, to listen and to find common ground."

The implication is that if everything degenerates into gridlock and partisan sniping, it won't be because he failed to try for something better.

That's a very smart move, and he handled himself excellently.

  5. How many Repubs in that room? Maybe fifty? A hundred against Obama? Hardly a fair fight!

Now, if there were 100 mosquitos ... that would be a fair fight.

  6. It was like watching Zatoichi cut down hordes of villains time after time...

  7. I would not have had the courage to go before that crowd - basically all alone and unscripted. What the Republicans don't understand is that having the cameras rolling could have hurt him just as easily, if not more so. The cams also encouraged them to at least act like they have some manners, which we
know they don't, but a few minutes of fantasy never hurt anyone.

He was very good indeed, but then he's the only one in the crowd with brains.
