Arizonians cutting their noses to spite their faces?

An Arizona state House committee has approved a measure that "would require presidential candidates who
want to appear on the ballot in Arizona to submit documents proving they meet the requirements to be president."

It doesn't take a mental giant to see through this silly, time consuming and expensive process. Obviously the Legislature wants to force President Obama to show his birth certificate to state officials should he run for re-election. Needless to say, if he were white, it wouldn't be an issue.

Don't these people have anything more important to do?

The House committee approved the measure which was sponsored by 40 of the state's legislators. It goes without saying that all the co-sponsors are Republicans.

"The idea was proposed by Skull Valley Republican Rep. Judy Burges. She says if people have to prove their citizenship to apply for a job or get a passport, they should have to prove it to run for president."

  1. Ironic that Arizona’s own John McCain, last Republicn presidential candidate, through no fault of his own, was born outside the 50 states, in the Panama Canal Zone. Lunacy is spreading throughout this land!

REmember, Arizona was one of the LAST states to approve of having an MLK Day holiday--after the NBA and the NFL threatened to stop playing in the state and boycotts were threateded against their convention centeers.

And let's not forget that their glorious Sentator McCain opposed the holiday on the state AND federal level. He fought it tooth and nail.

Yeah. Arizona has a sorry record on this sort of nonsense. There would be NO controversy if the current president was lily white and his name was John Palin.

It certainly seems legally questionable. There must surely be rules limiting the ability of states to interfere in federal elections.

  5. I would think that there is some sort of vetting process on the federal level to determine someone's natural born citizenship. Hopefully this bit of silliness will be destroyed in the courts.
What a small-minded ignorant bunch of knuckledraggers must reside in Arizona.
If this description does not describe all Arizonians, I suggest they find their voice because, after this I certainly have no desire to visit the state.

  6. Shaw: You have an amazing memory. I only vaguely remember all this. One day McCain's going to open his mouth and a snake's gonna slither out.

Infidel: The Constitution has it pretty well defined. Oh, who cares about some ole document that was written over 200 years ago by a bunch of old men? Ah, who were they anyway?

Rocky: Err,I have to confess. When I was married to Mr. Gott Rocks we lived right on the Camelback Golf Course. It really is a beautiful state and not everyone is like McCain and these nuts in the state legislature.
But they can be a bit strange - very rich.

There was one house that was painted battleship gray with architectural details to enhance the look/feel of a Navy vessel. There were signs all over: "Do not Enter." "Enter With Caution." "Proceed at Your Own Risk." "Trespassers Will Be Shot." This was not in shanty town but in a very prestigious section.

  7. To run for high elected office in the United States you have to prove you are, who you say you are. To get a passport you have to provide documents proving who you are.

Obama has already proved it, he was a Senator, he is President and he has a Passport.

  8. Fortunately the Birthers are quickly being relegated to the same loony bin of history as the 9/11 Truthers by most thinking Americans. Every state has its share of reality-denying crazies. Actions like this are important because they help us determine how many nuts are left out there and who they are so we can make sure we never give them any more responsibility than they already have.

  9. You do have to wonder if this is simply politcal posturing or do these idiots really believe this crap? I'd have to go for the latter. Hopefully they will go the way of the Dodo bird.

  10. So you lived in much natural beauty surrounded by much human ugliness.
That must have been tough as a liberal - or did you have to hide in the closet? :)

  11. Most of the time I kept my mouth shut except to complain to my conservative ex. Actually it's not too different from living here except the people in that area were skunk rich.
