New York Times/CBS Poll Makes for a Feel Good Day

I can't get too worked up writing about polls. They involve numbers and percentages and all that kind of yucky stuff that leaves me in the dust. So, I was thrilled when I went over to Hillbilly Report and found they had the latest Times/CBS poll all laid out for me

While we Democrats can't rest on our laurels the results should give us a little lift - especially after all the Tea Bagger brouhaha this past week.

  1. Polls can be a little deceiving, the framing of the questions asked, points to the favorable answers, but having said that, from just talking to people I know, not all liberals, I get the same feeling. The President seems to have risen above all the crap that the Republicans are dishing out. So he still has some political capital to spend.

  2. And just a half hour ago on MSNBC someone reported GOP is up by 9 points. I only caught the end of the conversation and I don't even know what the poll was from, but that's why I hate polls too!

  3. Holte: Yes, polls can be skewed but CBS has been anything but favorable toward the president since the day after he was elected.
But, even if it is a bit off, it's kind of nice to feel a little more positive.

Sue: 10 to 1 that was a Rasmussen poll.

  4. What's funny (not ha-ha) is that the number vary wildly depending on the outlet...msnbc vs washington post, etc. etc. etc. However, I saw this report, and said to myself "Ok, I can live with it." I was also happy to see a poll that said that 75% of americans favor the end of DADT. Now, I figure that one is skewed, but even if it is more like 60%, that's pretty good, considering.

  5. Bee: I don't care if the figures vary as long as they indicate that Obama and the Democrats are holding their own or better.

  6. Good post at Hillbilly Report.

I ache for the time when Democrats are rated "clearly much better" because they're delivering what people need and want, not that they're just not quite as bad as Republicans.

  7. Never watch a baseball game in Rasmussen stadium. Why? Because wherever you sit, there is a poll.

  8. Octo: And you might be mistaken for a Tea Bagger. Naw, we look too intelligent for that.

  9. Scanning this I didn't see if there was polling on Republican policy...?

Of course they don't actually have any, but that would be interesting to see.

"Do you want to get into a third war? Pay the same taxes but have rich people pay less? Do nothing on health care for another 50 years? Do any of these ideas fill you with enthusiasm?"

  11. Polls go up and polls go down. It is true, as Holre Ender said, that the way the questions are framed makes a big difference.

My husband was in radio and they took polls to find out which radio station had the most viewers. They called them the 'mother-in-law' polls. If the viewers mother-in-law listened to station A, that was the one the participant chose. If the radio station paid for the poll, guess which one came out on top?

I blame the media for their coverage (or lack of)of almost everything. They skew the thinking of those who are not politically savvy.

I find it disgusting that the fringe group calling themselves the Tea Party got non-stop coverage making them out to be more important than they are.

  12. Sorry, Holte Ender. I made a typo in your name. Please forgive me.

  13. Magpie: Actually there was a poll released just this past week that covered the Republican party. I think one of the bloggers had something about it. Totally skewed.

Napqueen: Thanks for stopping by. I don't think you have to worry about any of us giving up the good fight.

Darlene: I've begun to think that the more coverage of the Tea Beggars and Sneakers Palin the better. They're looking dumber and dumber to more and more people.

  14. I'm with you about "polls"... they often mislead instead of inform. But the Palin one, well, it gives you a bit of breath...:-)
