Fire at Mosque Construction Site - Murfreesboro, TN

Hate signs and inflammatory speeches are not enough for domestic terrorists, thugs and sociopaths. Now it's down to "burn, baby, burn."

Early Saturday morning, federal agents were called to a fire at the construction site of the future Islamic Center in Murfreesboro, TN. If you remember, this community about 30 miles southeast of Nashville is where Christians are protesting building a mosque to serve the approximately 250 Muslims families in the area.

The Tennesseean:
Eric Kehn, spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said his agency has not deemed the burning of an excavation hauler as arson.

Authorities at the scene did not specify whether gasoline or some other accelerant was used to start the fire.
Same story, different take at CBS News:
Ben Goodwin of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department confirmed to CBS Affiliate WTVF that the fire, which burned construction equipment at the future site of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, is being ruled as arson.
Special Agent Andy Anderson of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told CBS News that the fire destroyed one piece of construction equipment and damaged three others. Gas was poured over the equipment to start the fire, Anderson said.
While the cowards may have targeted "only" the equipment, the similarities to 1930s Germany, to the American South before the 1960s and again in the 21st Century, cannot be overlooked.

Planning committee chair, Essim Fathy, told CBS, "Our people and community are so worried of what else can happen. They are so scared."

Saleh Sbenaty, a member of the same committee and a professor of engineering technology at Middle Tennessee State University, said they had experienced no hostilities in the 30 years they've been in Murfreesboro and "have only seen the hostility since approval of the site plan for the new center."
Bob Shelton, 76 and an opponent of the center, told the Associated Press, "They are not a religion. They are a political, militaristic group.

"No mosque in Murfreesboro. I don't want it. I don't want them here," Evy Summers told a local television station early this summer. "Go start their own country overseas someplace somewhere. This is a Christian Country. It was based on Christianity."

According to the Tennessean Kevin Fisher, who spoke out against the mosque because it was approved without a public hearing and because he believes it will cause traffic problems, issued a statement after learning of the fire Saturday.

"We in this community believe strongly in the rule of law, and choose to settle our disagreements through peaceful deliberations and discussion, not vigilantism."

  1. amazing what's going on around America the great... Can anyone tell us when all this Muslim hate started? Did this country hate and discriminate against Muslim Americans before 9/11, or before the election of Barack Obama? President Obama MUST speak to the country, Bush should stand with him and speak too. Why aren't they speaking??

  2. I'm sure Cheney has one hand over Bush's mouth and the other holding him down. I think because the majority of the nuts believe that Obama is Muslim and that all Muslims are bad, nothing he says would have any impact on them whatsoever.

  3. Those Christians, so tolerant ehh I saw this article and the one I read said they were still investigating it. I knew it was bullshit. This time nobody got hurt, what about the next. Sad times.

  4. Fortunately it was just the equipment but the irony in that is the equipment doesn't belong to the Muslims, of course, but to the construction company on the job.

  5. These Christian nutcases and the Fox Noise crowd are doing there best to push American Muslims over the edge into the terrorist camp far better than Osama ever could.

Yes! Both Obama and Bush, along with every living former president, need to make a stand and quickly.

  6. I agree, Beach, but I think we might as well forget Bush doing anything worthwhile.

  7. All I can say is call the mosque up, tell them you have their back. When I called there, the woman was so appreciative of the call. Another thing, if you are so inclined, get hold of your local masjid/mosque see if they need any kind of assistance, maybe just sitting out in their parking lots at Friday prayers this week. I'm going to one here in our area and when I told them I have no religious affiliation whatsoever, they were very happy to have me come anyway. We have got to show these h8ers, this stuff will not go unseen by the rest of us. If they come for Muslims, you could be the next target of the bile.

The sherriff's office there is not going to claim this as a hate crime. No we can't do that, when asked would this be called terrorism or a hate crime. It is truly vile and obscene what the right is doing to anyone other than, that one Real true American Christian. Gotta stand up for those who cannot do it themselves.

  8. I sent them the following email:

I am appalled and repelled by the vandalism and hatred directed at the Murfreesboro Islamic Center. It no way reflects the Christianity of my raising or the behavior of any decent person. I am truly sorry for the violence directed at you for no other reason than your faith.

Millions of Americans believe deeply in freedom of religion. Please do not judge the many based on the ignorance of a few.

Contact the Center via its web site:

  9. Thanks for the web site K. I will email my support today. We should all remember the story "there was no one left to stand up for me."

Some people just have to find something or someone to hate to make themselves feel superior. It's sickening

  10. All of you have such good comments and ideas. I really appreciate the web site. I can't offer to sit out in the parking lot during prayers. About all I can do is keep writing about these atrocities and I hope that this will be the end of it.

I hope those people who protested the building of the center and who said all those ugly things are feeling a little remorse at what they've stirred up.

  11. @tnlib, that's why I said call if you wanted to. I just happen to have the time and can sit and read or chit chat in a parking lot while people are in there praying. It shows that the rest of us are not willing to sit by and do nothing if we write, call or visit.

  12. ""Go start their own country overseas someplace somewhere. This is a Christian Country. It was based on Christianity."

I'm sure they're a few Cherokees and Choctaws in that part of the world that find that statement to be a bit ironic.

And as far as "starting their own country"....Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Algeria, Morocco- been there, done that.
