Opponent Knows More About Racist, Sexist Ad Than He Let's On

So says Janice Hahn, Democratic candidate for California's 36th Congressional District, about her Republican opponent Craig Huey. Hahn filed a complaint with the FEC asking for an investigation because she believes there are close links between Huey and a Super Pac which produced the ad.
The P.O. box from one of his campaign vendors and this Super PAC Turn Right USA had the exact same address in the same retail shopping center.
In an appearance on MSNBC with Ed Schultz, Hahn says that it took Huey 36 hours to denounce the ad and despite requests that he call for it to be taken down, he hasn't done so. As of this morning it is still available on YouTube.

Hahm mentions the connection between a former Huey campaign worker who moved over to Turn Right USA. Crooks and Liars takes an in depth look at the who's who, or who might be who, behind this Super Pac:

In case you missed it, go look at the despicable ad John posted earlier. It's paid for by a new SuperPAC called Turn Right USA. Because it is a SuperPAC created for the purpose of making independent expenditures on behalf of candidates, no disclosures must be made with regard to donors.

However, there are some things we can learn about it from their FEC filing made earlier this week. TPM reported this yesterday:
The spot is produced by Ladd Ehlinger, Jr., best known for his wildly popular Dale "Don't Give A Rip" Peterson campaign video in the 2010 race for Alabama secretary of agriculture. Turn Right USA, the sponsor, is a brand new political action committee which only filed its paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Monday. The paperwork indicates that Turn Right USA intends to operate as a so-called "super PAC," capable of raising funds in unlimited amount, but will not use those funds to directly support federal candidates or committees. Claude Todoroff serves as treasurer for the group, which is based in Gardena, Calif. G. Rick Marshall serves as the group's designated agent.

  1. If so, the ad was a mind-bogglingly stupid move. Flagrant racism in a state which is more than one-third non-white? (Most minority voters would vote Democratic anyway, but blatant racism would make them more likely to turn out.) Easily-disproven claims which focus attention on a program which was actually successful? Lurid demon eyes that would make even a sympathetic viewer feel embarrassed to be swayed by the ad?

And if Huey does have something to do with it, how could anyone think the link could be covered up for long, in the internet age?

    Idiots.

  2. Lots of people claimed America had "transcended race" when Obama became president in 2008. Anyone with even a 1/10th of a brain can see racism is alive an well in this country.

  3. @Infidel: Idiots they are, especially if they used the same address. LOL!

@BB: Wonder if the MSM is still denying the racism inherent in the TP?

  4. proof once more the conservative/republicans haven't an ounce of brain power and believe the viewing public doesn't either! It's amazing how low they will stoop but even more is the citizens who LOVE what they do!

  5. I think this is just the new modus operandi for the republicans. It is why we have SuperPACs. They do the dirty work. The donors are hidden. And then the republican candidate can disavow any knowledge or support of it. So s/he is covered and it still gets out there.

  6. I hope I never get so jaded and cynical that that I cease to be amazed at the depths we humans can sink but this is pushing me to the edge. What galls me is that there are people who actually believe this you-know-what.

  7. And I just read that the WI Republicans have entered fake Democrats in all the recall races! These people really are out to destroy the country.

  8. Hell, they are afraid to run as republicans! What a bunch of chicken shits!

  9. Apparently, this is a deliberate ploy on the part of the Republicans to confuse the voters and split the vote.

  10. thats why its so important to educate the voter, well I mean the voter needs to educate themselves on the party candidates. Open your eyes righties and see your party for the frauds cheats and liars they are! They can't run a legit campaign on the wingnut agenda cuz it will scare the public to death, so they pretend to be someone they are not just to get their asses in the door then all hell breaks lose. Proof...Wisconsin and their Nazi Walker...

  11. That ad should backfire on Huey. It might, among some independents. I have a hunch a lot of tea party and movement conservatives will cheer him for it. Like Turn Right, it's the kind of thing we can expect thanks to Citizens United.

What the sugar daddies who fund Turn Right and other outfits like it had better reckon with is how sticky the fingers of the PAC's manager and worker bees might turn out to be.

Oh wait, I'm probably being too cynical. They're surely all in it as dyed-in-the-wool movement conservative volunteers. Yeah, right.

  12. Just a little FYI //WI Republicans have entered fake Democrats in all the recall races!//

...apparently the 'real' intent', with Wisxonsin open primary law, it would force a primary BEFORE the general election.... forestalling the recall vote by a month.... The Repubs are pretty sure they will lose their Senate Majority.... and want to buy additional time to shove more repressive laws down our throats before they lose! IE... the fake "Democrat" in my district has no intention of campaigning... and is a well known conservative not to be mistaken for a real Democrat... So they did this in Six Senate Districts... estimated total cost to Wisconsin to run the primaries...@5MM...see, that is how you balance a budget!

  13. I think this is only the beginning of a very ugly time. Hopefully, folks like those goons in CA - and the people who think this is cool - are a very tiny minority of a minority. And hopefully the good people of WI will see through the crap the GOP is trying to pull off there. And hopefully it will really, really piss people off.

  14. okjimm, wouldn't they just. Anything to win, even when they're losing by doing what they're doing.

  15. These jerkwads don't think past their noses.

But that ad WILL work on the racist population, it WILL get out the vote..as if Obama isn't doing that already for the haters. Pathetic shit ain't it?

  16. What I want to know is where they got the actors who are in the video? I know that jobs are hard to get but you gotta have some standards.

  17. @Sheria: EXACTLY! How hungry do you have to be to play to THAT script in a political ad? Mercenaries have more scruples.

When you look around at the fake Twitter account being used to post fake messages to smear Democratic candidates, when Faux News is happily serving as the GOP's unpaid propaganda wing, and when state legislatures are making serious inroads on anti-abortion legislation, defunding Planned Parenthood, successfully passing voter suppression laws in multiple states (usually battleground states), you have to wonder if maybe their despicable tactics aren't winning more often than they blow up or backfire.
If Democrats ever played half as dirty, they'd be more successful, but they'd lose at least one voter. I'd rather play fair and lose than cheat to win. Why isn't that the default position across the board?

  18. How do you get people to act in porn flicks? Think "Deep Throat." I think, I hope, ads like this only appeal to the lowest common denominator. Whether or not it's repellent enough to cause Huey supporters to either not vote for him or just not vote is up for grabs. Time will tell.

  19. The Klanservative Rushpubliscum Party only has 2 unifying planks now, and they happen to be religious hatred and racism. Without those 2 things, they'd never win another election, and they know it.

This is far from shocking. They've been trending this way since Saint Ronnie's "strapping young buck on food stamps."

  20. If I didn't live in a bright blue town in a pale blue state, I might have to borrow a gun from a Republican and shoot myself.

  21. I meant point it toward the Republican you borrow it from. ; )
