PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO REGISTER. IN SOME STATES IT CAN TAKE TWO WEEKS TO PROCESS. BE SURE TO VERBALLY MENTION THAT YOU WANT THE FREE PHOTO ID; SOME UNDERHANDED DVM PERSONNEL - AS IN WISCONSIN - MAY OTHERWISE CHARGE A FEE.
IT IS VITAL THAT WE TRY TO HELP PEOPLE GET REGISTERED AND TO THE POLLS. START WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO DO NOT DRIVE OR WHO NEED HELP IN ASSEMBLING THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS. THEN REACH OUT TO RETIREMENT HOMES, CHURCHES, ASSISTED LIVING HOMES. CALL YOUR LOCAL DEMOCRATIC HEADQUARTERS OR LEAGUE FOR WOMEN VOTERS TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE.
YES, IT WILL TAKE TIME AND EFFORT AND LOT'S OF IT, BUT GETTING REGISTERED AND VOTING HAS NEVER BEEN SO IMPORTANT TO OUR FUTURE.
BECAUSE THE FUTURE OF OUR
COUNTRY DEPENDS ON IT.

Exellent resource and post. This is so important, it shouldn't be left to chance.
ReplyDeleteGood! This is what we need. I'm looking forward to stepping up in South Carolina to further voter registration this year. That effort has already begun.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, I'm sharing your post on FB and I thank you for the links!
Supposedly, the Justice Department is looking into these voter laws.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone does share. Jerry, I did see that - I just hope they're not leaving the gate too late.
ReplyDeleteVital info for defenders of democracy. Thank you and well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the link on voter registration. My state (Arizona) is one of those requiring identification.
ReplyDeleteVoter Fraud is the excuse, but that's a red herring. We all know the object is to disenfranchise the poor, students and the elderly (the poor ones, that is). And we all know it's being enacted by Republicans to keep Democrats away from the polls. It's shameful and I hope the Justice Dept. find these laws unconstitutional before the next election.
@Dave: Thanks - on all fronts. :)
ReplyDelete@Darlene: SCOTUS ruled in a case involving Indiana in 2007, I believe, that photo IDs were constitutional. But so many of these laws go way beyond a simple photo ID. The DOJ should have jumped all over this a long time ago.
The State of Tennessee will omit as many as 500,000 people from the voter roles absent a picture ID. Nearly all of these people are either first-time voters, aged, or minority. If for no other reason, this is why we are different from those making these rules. We're Americans. What in God's name are they?
ReplyDelete@Frodo: Good to hear from you. They are, quite simply, fascists and nothing but. I'm all for starting a movement to stop paying taxes in all these states that are restricting voters.
ReplyDeleteWe've already had a lesson in how GOTV will be critical -- it was low turn-out last year that let the Republicans take so much power and do so much damage. I'll be spreading the word too.
ReplyDeleteI'm really concerned about the handling of absentee ballots here in TN -- since those do not require ID, does that mean they'll find a way to otherwise discount them? Or does that mean we should all just absentee vote?
ReplyDelete@Infidel: I just hope those who stayed home have learned something, but I fear many have not. Do help spread the word. As you know, our votes are probably more important than they have ever been.
ReplyDelete@Intelli: Good question. Those reprobates are capable of just about anything. But I have read here and there advisories urging people to vote absentee. Frankly, I'd rather make the effort to get it done the old fashioned way.
Before you go off half-cocked and decide to get a friend or family member to vote, can you please find out who would get their vote?
ReplyDeleteI don't want to circumvent democracy, but I don't want to help it along, either, if it means more lost congressional seats.
@John: Good point.
