I'm not an atheist - at least I don't think so - but this kind of "thinking" might tip the hat in their favor.
As seen on Facebook.
UPDATE (12/12/2011): Thanks to a reader who is a lot more alert than I am, while the letter was indeed published, it was a hoax. See the comments - and please read my subsequent apology.
Actually, most of our great nation's problems are rooted in the prevalence of people who are not only profoundly ignorant, but truculent about it -- and Ms. Shannon is among them.
ReplyDelete@Infidel: Ain't that the truth. The person who posted this didn't cite a source. Had she done so, I might be tempted to send Alice a copy of Brooke Allen's "Moral Minority: Our Skeptical Founding Fathers." (Just acquired it and find it very absorbing.)
ReplyDeleteWow, for someone who supposedly believes in God and religion, where He says to "love thy brother", THAT woman certainly doesn't follow Scripture! Maybe SHE'S the one who should be thrown out of our country for hating on her "brother".
ReplyDeleteNothing like the open mind of a Christian.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read stuff like this it makes me proud to say I'm an atheist. I'm not really, but in this person's eyes I would be.
@Pamela: I tend to agree with you on that one.
ReplyDelete@Rubye: Same here. It just boggles the mind.
ReplyDeleteOuch! It's sad. A few years ago I read "Confederates in the Attic" and another one named "Deer Hunting With Jesus" which helped me understand these attitudes. Nice blog. I'm glad I ran across it. :)
ReplyDelete@troutbirder: Welcome. I hope you find your way back here, although I have to confess that recent posts have been a little less than inspiring. Seem to be having a bit of a dry spell, or ho-hum moment, which is why I am impressed with anyone who can maintain two such good blogs as yours.
ReplyDeleteI am at a loss for words. Ms. Shannon is an idiot, a dangerous idiot. I hope that she hasn't reproduced.
ReplyDeleteWhen this Alice lady typed her anti atheist thing she probably thought she did something profound and wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the things that makes the right so dangerous. They think hate and ignorance are intellectual accomplishments.
@Sheria and Joe:
ReplyDelete"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."

@Anonymous: Thanks for the heads up. I should have known better than trust the original source. It is not the first time this individual has posted misleading b.s. but it is my fault that I didn't take the time to verify it. I will post the Snopes piece on FB and defriend the person who put it up in the first place. We all make mistakes but this is one too many. In the meantime, I offer up my own apologies for not being more careful.
