Stupak's voice mails ain't so friendly

Bart Stupak is receiving some ugly messages from all those good Christian folk.

CBS News Reports

"Congressman Stupak, you baby-killing mother f***er... I hope you bleed out your a**, got cancer and die, you mother f***er," one man says in a message to Stupak.
"There are millions of people across the country who wish you ill," a woman says in a voicemail, "and all of those thoughts that are projected on you will materialize into something that's not very good for you."

CBS News also obtained copies of faxes sent to Stupak, which include racial epithets used in reference to President Obama and show pictures of nooses with Stupak's name.

Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) said that the windows of her Niagara Falls office were broken, and she received a voicemail referencing snipers, CBS News' Jill Jackson reports. The police, FBI and Capitol Police are all investigating the incident.

Slaughter released a statement condemning Republicans for encouraging activity that has "coarsened the debate, inflamed tensions and contributed to an increase in incivility."

MICHAEL STEELE said that Speaker Nancy Pelosi should be put on 'the firing line,'" Slaughter said. "SARAH PALIN said 'don't retreat - reload.' And House Minority Leader JOHN BOEHNER said that a Democratic member of Congress who supported health care reform would be a 'dead man.'"

Other Democrats who have been the target of verbal threats or vigilante style tactics include Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), Reps. Steve Driehaus (D-Ohio), Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.) and Dennis Cardoza (D-Calif.) and Rep. Tom Perriello (D-Va.)'s brother

House Republican Leader JOHN BOEHNER responded to the incidents today on Fox News, saying the GOP does not encourage that type of behavior.

"There are a lot of angry Americans, and they are angry over this health care bill," BOEHNER said. "They're angry about the fact that the Democrats here in Washington aren't listening to them. But I've got to tell you that violence and threats are unacceptable. It is not the American way."

What a crock of unadulterated road apples. This lying moron deliberately plays on the emotions of the extremests and says nothing when the situation only gets out of hand "a little." Then he gets on Fox News, of course, and excuses this criminal behavior by, in effect, blaming it on the Democrats. I mean it's the Democrats' fault that the people are angry. Right?

  1. If these people aren't aggressively pursued and vigorously prosecuted then this country will know only lawless chaos.

  2. Rep. Jim Clyburn, SC Democrat said he has been getting faxes and emails depicting "nooses, a gallows with Pres. Obama's picture, and phone calls threatening violence.

So, add him to the list too.

This is way over the top and the right wingers are just saying Oh stop now.. but not condemning it... Beck on his program today said the Democrats are setting up the Tea Baggers and trying to incite them to violence and he told people to calm down and stop. Covering his A** in case something drastic does happen. But at the same time pushing his conspiracy theories about the President and his staff... and showing pictures of William Ayres, next to the a picture of Pres. Obama.

Just vile creatures all of them.

  3. These are the same people who've been raging over a Soviet-style takeover of this country while acting like Stalinists?

Threatening the lives of Congressional representatives and their children?

I hope every American remembers these people when they go to vote next November.

No sane voter would want to be associated with this group of people who threaten the lives of Americans who exercise their Constitutional rights.

That is REAL Soviet behavior. Not voting one's beliefs in a free and democratic society.

  4. Boehner: "They're angry about the fact that the Democrats here in Washington aren't listening to them.”

My president, for eight years, was George W. Bush. My senators are Lindsey O. Graham and Jim DeMint. Not once have any of them responded positively to any of my snail mails or phone calls. In effect, I’ve had no representation. Angry at times? Sure. But, I have never once considered violence as an alternative to citizen action.

We had better remember they are the ones with houses full of guns.

  5. I've had it. Two big pieces in one evening has exhausted me, so I will be back in the morning. Sleep well, my friends.

  6. If these are good, god-fearing Christians, I am glad that I am a heathen.

  7. That's "Junket John" Boehner for you. He's a corrupt, lying, drunken waste of oxygen who jacks these "teabagger" morons off with one hand while holding up his other hand to swear he doesn't approve of the way he's gotten them to act.

At least he holds his hand up when it doesn't have a bottle in it, or a lobbyist-supplied golf club.

  8. "But I've got to tell you that violence and threats are unacceptable."...

    Yes you do.

"It is not the American way."

A large part of your voter base does not concur, but it was a good way to put it.

  9. Boehnhead: "They're angry about the fact that the Democrats here in Washington aren't listening to them."

Oh, rubbish. The people gave the Democrats a mandate in 2006 and 2008. HCR was one of the issues Obama campaigned on. The fact that the polls swung marginally against HCR after months of lies and distortions against it does not negate that.

There is already a wave of far-right terrorism under way, and it may well escalate.

We've seen this pattern before. Elements on the extreme right responded to the civil rights movement with murderous violence. It's probably going to get worse before it gets better.

As I commented on Sue's blog, if you see or hear anything that suggets a serious threat, report it. The Secret Service and the FBI are helped in their work by an alert public. You could save a life, or many.

  10. the extremists and their cohorts in crime are trying to twist these violent rants and say it's all the dems fault, "if they would just listen to us we wouldn't have to resort to violence!" Good grief, I would say give the babies their nipple to suck on but it's way beyond that. These are mentally challenged people and I don't know how they can be stopped.

  11. I'm not sure whether to be more afraid of the extremists or the Republican respresentatives and senators. They are both equally barbaric.

    Infidel, I like your idea.

  12. As Jerry Critter said a couple of days ago over at my place

Want to see what the republicans are up to? Just look at what they are accusing the democrats of doing.

    Mr. Critter nailed it.

  13. I detest that man almost as much as Dick Cheney. He flies into a rage on the House floor, gives at least tacit approval for members of his caucus to cheerlead the mob, then points the finger at the Democrats. It's beyond irrational -- they've descended into lunacy.

  14. I know ol' Bart. He's local to me, and I voted for him a couple of times. So suddenly has he become a household name. And I remember reading a few weeks ago on some left-wing blogs some major insults against him. And even after this vote, I saw Rachel Maddow bashing him.

Conspiracy theories are not the same as acts of violence or calling for them. You can't lump it it all together. And as for Ayers and Obama, that's fair game, thanks to the President's poor judgment in associating with this actual terrorist prior to his election.

  15. Lordy, I'd hate to think what I'd do if I had to go before something like a HUAC and discuss people and groups I associated with in the 60s.
Factcheck.org has pretty much discounted the charge that Obama was actually "paling" around with Ayers and instead limits their contact to several community meetings.

But so what? Even if they'd gone on a 3-month camping trip, it doesn't mean Obama accepted Ayer's philosophy. I don't like guilt by association.
