Modern Day Health Care

The Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps. provides free medical care to Los Angeles residents. I don't think anyone can describe Los Angeles as "remote," but obviously there are vast numbers of people in the City of Angels who haven't been blessed with any form of insurance or health care.

RAM was featured here when it took its services to a remote are of Virginia.

  1. As someone from Los Angeles, there are parts of it that are 'remote.' Because of the sprawling nature of the city, portions of it are up in the hills tucked away from everything else. One can drive past them without seeing them on the main freeways and the only access is surface side streets.

It's certainly not the same kind of 'remote' as here in TN, but in a big city it isn't entirely inaccurate to call an isolate part of town with no freeway exit 'remote' when the only way to get around is drive and most people use the freeways.

And of course, there are parts of Los Angeles that are 'remote' in the sense that no one goes there out of choice rather than distance or inability.
