AARP Battles Health Care Reform Lies

In their latest bulletin AARP tackles the health care reform lies, hype, rumors and slurs that are growing in epidemic proportions on a daily basis. While none of this is news to anyone with a brain the size of a dried up pea and anyone who has been following the health care debate at all, the facts bear repeating ad nauseum. The organization asks and answers questions such as:

-  Will the government take over health care so we end up with socialized medicine? No.

-  Will private insurance be outlawed or wither on the vine? No

-  Will Medicare be eliminated or gutted to pay for reform? No.

-  Will the government ration care? No.

My favorite:

-  Will the government encourage euthanasia to save costs? No.

As with all the other Q&A's, AARP examines where the "myths" originate. In the case of this one, it began with former Republican New York lieutenant governor Betsy McCaughey when she appeared on a conservative radio talk show: "Congress would make it mandatory ... that every five years, people in Medicare have a required counseling session that will tell them how to end their life sooner ... all to do what's in society's best interest.

Last July, Pretty-Boy-but-Brainless John Boehner, R-Ohio, issued a statement saying: This provision may start us down a treacherous path toward government-encouraged euthanasia if enacted into law." Actually, I don't even think he's pretty - no character in his face. I guess that just leaves brainless.

I really have a hard time accepting that there are actually folks out there who believe such nonsense and who vote for these people with their questionable knowledge and morals.

An AARP member writes in the letters section of the same bulletin:

It amazes me how easily Congress spent well over a trillion dollars for the war in Iraq and again to bail out banks, but when it comes to health care for the people, right away hurricanes and tornadoes of opposition start to blow.

NOTE: Computer still down, so I don't have all the time and tools to do more than a half-assed job at posting. Apologies.

  2. I've always thought that Boehner looks rather wooden, as in carved out of. Mahogany I'd guess, or maybe a deep-stained cherry.

  3. To me he's the male version of Sarah - looks but no brains or substance.

  4. Isn't John Boehner a knucklehead? That would be just like him to say something so lyingly stupid.

If the people of the state of Ohio are dumb enough to keep sending a guy like that to Washington, they deserve everything that happens to them, I'm sorry.
