The GOP's close resemblance to a Psychrolutes marcidus

When I first read John Kass' article yesterday, I could have sworn he was describing Republicans.

He said, the cunning blobfish [Republican] is boneless [spineless], "a gelatinous orb hovering  in the deep [shadows], covered in slime and mucus."

"A blobfish [Republican] looks like some fat, drunken judge [congressman] and may be highly intelligent. And therefore quite dangerous."

"It frowns. It leers. Sometimes, it even drools."

The blobfish [Republican] hovers just above the ocean [senate/house] floor without having to expend energy.

The blobfish [Republican] is becoming extinct.

As you've seen, Kass is talking about the spineless fish and not the dangerous Republicans. But you have to admit the similartities are uncanny.

A face only its mother can love.

  1. I've seen that exact expression on the face of Bitch McConnell.

  2. It looks like a slightly more evolved version of Limbaugh.

  3. The resemblance is uncanny. Humor is the best way to make a point and you did an excellent job.

That has to be the ugliest fish in the ocean.

  4. OMG!! That's hilarious! It does look like chinless McConnell!! Uncanny descriptions of the rethugs...

  5. It's been listed as the top ugliest animal in the world.

  6. Interesting that those two pictures are almost aligned.

  7. Excellent post Leslie. It was not only very humorous I also got a biology lesson about the Blobfish. Which by the way, I think bears a close resemblance to former republican house speaker Denny Hastert.

  8. Did a little research. No record of Blobfish having supported attacks on Iraq or Afghanistan. No record of their supporting bailouts. No indication that they comprise even a small segment of Glen Becks audience. No record of Blobfish having purchased copies of Going Rogue.

I would recommend keeping Barbara Lee, Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich in the House but replacing the rest with Blobfish. I would urge we replace the entire Senate with Blobfish. I would further urge we exchange Obama and Biden for a single Blobfish who could be depended upon to not support war and Wall St-the polar opposite of the Barak and Joe Show.

  9. I've always thought that Mitch McConnel looked more like a sad turtle.

On a more auspicious note Leslie, you've now joined the ranks of those being vilified by my good buddy Don Douglas over at American Power! Congrats, and gracias for the shout out.

  10. I protest this slander of a poor defenseless fish in comparing it to an ethical amoeba like Limbaugh or Cheney.

I demand a retraction and an abject apology to aquatic slime everywhere.

  11. Oso: Great take-off. You have quite the imagination.

JBW: I've also thought McConnell looked like a turtle and sometimes a dumb owl. Thanks for the heads-up. Took a look-see and alerted the folks on Swash Zone. Don't know if he's violating any copyright but looks like this might turn into WWIV.

Magpie: Aren't they found off the coast of Australia? I read that they are indeed becoming extinct as fishermen catch them up in their nets accidentally. Can't imagine what they'd be good for.

  12. Yes they're found near Australia and built for high pressure depths. It's not known if they exist anywhere else.

All jokes aside we need to respect things like these. There's the ageless principle that, for all we know, they might hold the answer to a hitherto unasked riddle of science, which would make their extinction a crime against nature, and potentially disadvantageous to mankind in a way we can't yet imagine.

  13. I think I'd rather vote for a Blobfish than a Republican, unless the Blobfish is taught how to lie.

  14. Magpie: I think I read that Tasmania is the other spot. And you're right about trying to preserve them. In fact there are a couple of groups trying to do this very thing.

Holte: I'd like to find a way to slip one of these in McConnell's bed while he's sleeping.

  15. Republicans reschmublicans. All I want to know is who beheaded Ziggy.

One could say the same about Republicans. Studying them could help us understand all kinds of mental aberrations. Nevertheless, I would not mourn their extinction (though it would be best if we could cure them).

  17. tnlib,
Tasmania is a state of Australia. I should have mentioned Tasmania but I reflexively felt that I was including it by just saying 'Australia'.
It's a beautiful place by the way.

    Inflidel753,
Were it not for Republicans, some Democrats might be them instead

  18. Now - if I could just quit wanting to spell it out as "blogfish."

I knew that about Tasmania and I have also heard that it is absolutely beautiful. I think I'd love a visit - as long as I didn't run into any "blobfishes."
