MediaMatters petition telling Washington Post to stop supporting torture

I've written before that The Washington Post is moving so far to the right that it's about to fall in the lap of the Wall Street Journal, which has been going downhill since Rupert Murdoch bought it in 2007. (The Australian Right-winger is going after the New York Times.)

MediaMatters has put up a petition to tell the Post to stop promoting torture. Please read and sign. And pass on.

  1. Went there and did that. Thanks for the pointer.

The Post really has gone way to the right. I think many hurting or at least very anxious media outlets look longingly at Wall Street Journal readership and Fox News ratings, and want a piece of that action. Or, maybe it's a reflection of the preference of the Post's owners and management. Whatever is behind the paper's shift, it's a shame.

  2. The WSJ has always had high circulation. I think the print media is afraid of dying as so many of their sisters have done already - they're very nervous.

I'm sure ad revenues are steadily declining and since they provide 2/3+ of a paper's funding, the business office is going to be looking at these figures and then dictating the editorial content. It goes without saying that the editorial side doesn't think the business side knows what they're doing editorially, and they don't.

I hate the thought of the Aussie getting control of the NY Times. Monopoly.

Anymore I don't even like listening to NPR because I see/hear them moving to the right in loud clear tones. Even their choice of interviewees isn't balanced. Four out of of five are inevitably conservative.

  3. Murdoch is a US citizen now.

Actually his influence is so vast he could be considered a global pandemic.
