1960s: Tom Lehrer - Pollution

  1. Lord, may I be forgiven for occasionally wishing I could turn back the clock to this Tom Lehrer moment! If we had known what an environmental horror show we'd be witnessing in 2010, we'd all have tried to hold back Time. Come to think of it, there've been plenty of things since 1960 that I'd rather not have witnessed.

  2. Me too. If this were the 60s, there would be thousands of folks in the streets protesting. But I guess the Blogosphere has replaced demonstrations. I hope not.

  3. What a classic recording. Tom Lehrer was the greatest. When I was but a young lad, my father had an original recording of Tom Lehrer songs. It was on a record with an inside start. You remember records. Most records started on the outside and worked towards the center as it played. This one started on the inside and worked towards the outside when playing.

I don't know what ever happened to it. It would probably be worth a couple of bucks now assuming it was still in good condition.

  4. Do I remember records? You betcha. I had about six moving boxes filled with records but had to get rid of them. Classical, opera, folk, all the Kindston Trio, Edward R. Murrow, and so on. And Lehrer.

But never from the inside working out! Sounds like a comparison of belly buttons.

  5. I believe it was a recording of a live performance. The performance was recorded directly on the record. It was a one-of-a-kind. My father was in the music business and, in fact, may have been the one who recorded it.

  6. How interesting. Too bad you don't still have it. I think it would be fun to see how much it's worth.

  7. A quick peak at ebay showed a couple of albums. One is "An evening wasted with Tom Lehrer" taken from the back of the audience toward the stage. Another is a red and white cover with a long curvy piano keyboard and TL banging away. There are a lot of CDs but they aren't the same imo - don't have the warmth in tone of records.

  8. I love Tom Lehrer!

    LMAO over The Vatican Rag!

    Pollution, pollution?

The more things change, the more they remain the same!

  9. Shaw: I thought about doing the Vatican Rag but decided to wait till the next scandal - maybe in about six months? ; )

  10. I hope the blogosphere hasn't interfered with protesting, but it does seem like Teabaggers are the only ones protesting these days - and many of them have been stirred to action as a result deliberate propaganda and misinformation stoking their personal fears and ignorance.

    Sigh.

  11. PEN: I just read a Wash Post piece that, in my words, the TP is having shrinking pains not growing pains. Their disapproval just a few months ago was around 38%; now it's 50%.
