No Sex Ed, No Contraception, No Abortion: But What If . . . ?

Republican and Right-to-Life-Until-Birth groups are seemingly unable to make the connection between sex education and the number of teenage pregnancies or between not being able to afford contraception and the continuing cycle of poverty that the birth of a child often brings.

So, why would these same groups be expected to consider what would happen to a woman who is charged and found guilty of having an illegal abortion? After all, in our system of laws, most illegal activities are met with some kind of punishment. A fine? How much? A jail sentence? How long and what if she has children at home?

Execution? Why not? These groups consider it murder and states like Texas love their executions -- 500 so far. Part of their program to protect the sanctity of life no doubt. Or, how about a scarlet letter embroidered on their bodices? "A" for abortion anyone?

AtCenterNetwork.com, which bills itself as a "a group that works for justice and nonviolent resolution of conflicts," interviewed a group of abortion protesters about this very matter in Libertyville, Illinois recently. Obviously, they've never thought any of this through.

  1. Fascinating.

‘Abortion is murder’ except it’s not actually because it’s not a.... hmmm...

    But anti-choice crusaders aren't all happy-go-lucky.

Last time I debated abortion with a Right wing ‘Christian’ I asked about the aspect that - for me at least - is central to the whole conversation:

‘what happens to the mother? What if in her terror and panic she gets a backyard job, like commonly happens when it is not medically available?’

The answer I got was “if you don’t care about your baby I don’t care about you”.

In other words… 2 deaths are better than 1, as far as this ‘Christian’ was concerned.
He was content for the mother to die in agony.
14 years old raped by her father... doesn’t matter - ‘die slut’. He doesn’t care. Would vindictively be satisfied even.

I suspect if you dug hard enough, past the casual 'haven't thought about it...' that would actually be the attitude.

    1. Wow, that's way over the top. Can't help but notice it's a "he" -- something that can really raise my hackles. I regret that the video didn't feature a man or two. It's hard to reason with folks, male or female, who can't reason and who won't even try -- who are so entrenched in a certain dogma that they are literally afraid to listen to facts contrary to their own narrow belief systems and who then want to dictate those rigid beliefs to everyone else. Bleh.

  2. The last lady said it all. God called her, and there she is in blind alliegence. Knowledge and thought are not necessary, only faith.

    1. And why more studies are beginning to show a connection between people who think like she does and mental illness.

    2. One of the manifestations of mental illness is the lack of cognitive thinking.

  3. These folks also make stuff up or believe made-up stuff to suit their world view. When you point out that what they're claiming is simply not true, they call you a Communist--at least that's what happened to me when I proved a statement one of them posted on her blog was totally made up.

It's a waste of time to try to reason with them, since they haven't the ability, in most cases, to reason. All they can do is call people names and then feel smug.

Meanwhile, we need to keep pressure on pols to NOT let them outlaw a legal medical procedure.

    1. Which is exactly why I do not visit their sights or engage with them at all. I might as well be standing outside and talking to a brick wall. Not only do we need to put pressure on pols we need to find an effective way to counteract the lies and nonsense people like Steve Stockman, Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz, etc., are constantly posting on Facebook. That latter one is a very dangerous hombre.

  4. Since the change in my employment situation I have not only become a republican, I've grown to appreciate how I can justify and idiocy I want by saying God told me.

My wife doesn't buy that crap but I'm real popular with the people I used to call deluded right wing fools now. There's talk of running me for something.

    1. LOL Joe. Does the change in employment mean you've become a member of the 1 percent?

  5. Sadly no. But our republican ranks are chock full of people that think a rich guy will reward them with a pat on the head for thinking the ridiculous income gap is a great example of freedom and America's exceptionalism.

  6. Joe? Is that you Joe? I love that you love that you're a republican, but do you really think that women should be deprived of a free choice? I don't believe you do :-)
