One more hypocritical Republican keeps it gay

California state Senator Roy Ashburn (R-Bakersfield) - a family values kind of guy - was picked up on a DWI in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Whether the flush on his face was due to the alcohol in his system or to being picked up after leaving a gay nightclub with an unidentified man in his car is unclear.

Frankly, I don't give a hoot in hell what Ashburn does in his spare time or who he does it with. It's the hypocrisy I have trouble with.

It's the hypocrisy of all these self-designated keepers of the faith who publicly  oppose gay rights. It's the hypocrisy of these sanctimonious stuff-shirts publicly fighting gay marriage. It's the hypocrisy of the holier-than-thou publicly carrying the banner for "Traditional Family Values."

Finally, it's the hypocrisy of publicly denouncing gays and surreptitiously going to a gay bar and picking up an unknown individual with the purpose of possibly having same-sex sex - that is if you don't get stopped for a DWI first.

Ashburn was given a field sobriety test and hauled off to the Sacramento pokey where he remained for two hours before being  released.

  1. His kind of political creep prospers off persuading people to act against their own political interest. I guess he just embodies this principle in his own hypocrisy.

  2. Good gracious, I hope he wasn't wearing that unfashionably-patterned tie to the gay nightclub. No one would want to be seen with him!

Seriously, I'm starting to get suspicious every time I hear one of these guys ranting against homosexuality. Most people who aren't homosexual practically never think about the subject. Why would they? I don't understand why anyone would feel the need to keep publicly talking about how bad it is. Maybe they're trying to convince themselves of something.

I'm with you -- I have nothing against politicians being gay, it's the hypocrisy that's a problem. We don't see these kinds of surprises nearly as much with Democratic politicians because gay Democrats are more likely to be out of the closet, like Barney Frank.

And drunk driving is unforgivable. They should have thrown the book at him.

  3. Republican and hypocrisy are becoming synonymous. And as Rachael says, "They are not even embarrassed".

  4. Like you, I think that his sexuality is his own business. If he had not been parroting 'family values' and denigrating the LGBT community, I would oppose outing him.

  6. Some media person supposedly interviewed the bartendress at this joint. She said she never saw Ashburn - that he would have stood out because their clientele is mostly Hispanic and African American, I believe - sorry, it flashed by before I could catch all the details.

I'm pretty hard-nosed about a person being "innocent until proven guilty" and all that, so we'll see. Obviously he was three sheets to the wind but there is a possibility that he had been somewhere else before and had just stopped off to pick up a friend - all very innocently. Maybe the "friend" got stranded there and called Ashburn on his cell to pick him up?

  7. I found another report on this. Apparently State Senator Assburn's..... proclivities..... were something of an open secret in Sacramento all along.

  8. No kidding! How very interesting. So he didn't have to work so hard to prove he was anti-gay afterall because everyone knew he was infact gay?
