1960s: Joe Crocker - With a Little Help From My Friends (and Some Groovy Scenes From Woodstock)

This is a gently edited repost from August 15, 2009. I don't know about you guys, but I feel the need for a break from all the mind numbing craziness that seems to be robbing us of our own sanity and sucking our life blood out of our veins.

This video really gives you a feel for the massive size of the Woodstock crowd and the human drama playing out around the main events. There were young adults, small children and even some nuns. There were colorful buses, funny cigarettes and such. There was free form dancing and even a little nudity

But there was much, much more. This was the summer of peace and love and Woodstock was the mecca. Despite a crowd of nearly 500,000 people, a serious food shortage, mud and rain, there were no "incidents," as the fuzz like to say.

In this video, Joe Crocker is singing "With a Little Help From My Friends," an appropriate song while watching all those friends loving one another and singing and dancing together - or just grooving.

  2. I actually remember Walter Cronkite reporting on Woodstock on his news broadcast. At 46 years-old now I find myself wishing more and more I could travel back in time to revisit that time.

  4. A remarkable event at a time when American society was deeply divided and stressed. Alas, the spirit of peace, love and unity that permeated Woodstock and San Francisco's "Summer of Love" proved as delicate and fleeting as apple blossoms and dandelion puffballs.

  5. It was definitely fleeting but it still lifts my spirits to watch it.

  7. It was fun back then. Another hopeful time, which yes, included all the strife in society.
I have a had time forgetting that generation is responsible for the last 30 years of selfish, irresponsible federal financial fiasco. Not so strange considering that generation was always out for its own good time. Never considering the future, only their wants at the moment. That's how I see the public wholeheartedly voting for "No New Taxes" yet not insisting on cutting spending.

  10. I saw Joe on TAVIS SMILEY about a year ago....he seems happy and healthy these days, married (and believe it or not) is a rancher in Colorado! Many of his neighbors had no idea of his fame or background, just that English guy down the road.

  11. @Hugh: I thought I'd read somewhere that he had a ranch in Colorado. Just an English guy down the road, huh.
