Will Take Giggles Anywhere I Can Find Them These Days

This is the kind of humor I used to hear when I resided at the Denver Press Club 24/7. Perched on my favorite bar stool, someone would start something and we'd have a round robin, off-color, pun-fest that could go until we had to hit the loo - either from booze overflow, or from laughing so hard it hurt, or both.

Anderson Cooper goes solo, rivaling the output of ten or so media types, as he reports Gerald Depardieu's urinating on a plane (and not in the plane's loo either). As he's doing his nightly "Rediculist" segment Cooper collapses in a spasm of giggles that seem to last forever, and are quite contagious, when he quips, "All I can say is, they should thank their lucky stars it wasn't Depar-two."

  1. Priceless!!! Never mind the extended pun which everyone knows I love (as witness the Groaner of the Week on my blog), who would have thought Cooper would giggle like that?

I had to watch it twice!!!

  2. I thought it was a scream myself. And there is something about someone else giggling at an inappropriate time and not being able to stop that is so deliciously contagious.

  3. That is a scream. I'm not a big fan of Cooper, but this was funny.

It reminds me of something that came out when I was starting high school. There was a diner not far from the school where I often went for lunch. A comedy recording by Jim Backus came out and went straight into the jukebox at that diner. It was titled "Delicious," and it was hilarious. You also have to understand, that jukebox played loud.

Every day for weeks during lunch hour, and again after school, people would play "Delicious" several times over, and it was so infectious, everyone in the place would be laughing until their sides ached. Not just the customers, but the waitresses, short order cook, bus boys, and the owner, Walt, who usually was at the till.

"Delicious" was fun but kind of disruptive, so Walt eventually put a sign on the jukebox asking that the record not be played more than once in an hour. Didn't work, so in frustration he asked the jukebox vendor to remove it. Customers got so upset, he had to ask that "Delicious" be put back in. Eventually, after three or four months, the novelty wore off and people quit playing it four and five times over.

If you click the link, listen and try to imagine a good-sized diner full of people laughing out loud, repeating some of the words and laughing even harder, you'll probably end up laughing out loud, too. For added enjoyment, try to imagine people walking into the place who were unaware of the record and what was going on, looking around as if they had stumbled into a madhouse, but then hearing the record and getting it, and starting to laugh along with everyone else.

    Enjoy.

    If you click the li

  4. SW: Thanks for that funny, funny link. I can just picture the scene as you describe it, Walt's frustration and people who walk in unawares. A more innocent time.

  5. I long for the good ol' days when bad behavior on a plane was limited to talking loudly or an elbow creeping over into my space. Now, we have men peeing on the carpet in a plane (that olympic athlete started it all).

I guess all planes will now have to come equipped with a big drain on the floor. Ugh.

  6. That was hysterical! I was giggling right along with Cooper, whom I think is very easy on the eyes!

  7. Thank you for posting this. I failed to see it on CNN but did see the follow-up the next day when A.C. was talking about it and got the giggles again. Now I know what the bathroom humor was all about.

You can't watch someone giggle without giggling yourself. I confess, I'm giggling right now. I guess it 'Depends' on what you find funny.

Lets make sure Depardieu is diapered before boarding a plane with him.

  9. I wish I could laugh like that at least once a day.

  10. I find your reference to the many good Americans and people who are members of the TEA party as seditionists/anarchists/terrorists disturbing. Such callous stereotyping is as distasteful as those in my political arena who call all leftist and liberals "traitor".

    Am I know a troll?

  11. Wes: I don't usually publish comments from trolls, but to answer your question - yes, you are "Know" a troll. This article has nothing to do with the Tea Party.

As for the other, I truly believe that most of the TP is made up of seditionists, etc. I will go a step further and say that I believe very strongly that they are unpatriotic. There is nothing patriotic about people who hate their country and their government in my book, and who are willing to sacrifice i
