Fox News Correspondent Breaks Down

The Beekeepers Apprentice commented on my previous blog that she had heard a reporter break down on NPR. I  didn't catch that but I did see Fox reporter Steve Harrigan fall apart at the seams. The poor guy will probably get fired for being openly sympathetic to the victims.

I'm really not familiar with this reporter - wonder why. He could be another crying Glenn Beck for all I know - another actor, if you will. But I sincerely hope not.

Tips for donating money to Haiti while avoiding being scammed

Link to CBS's list of safe organizations for Haiti donations. It is the most thorough I've seen so far (36) - providing names, charity information and links to the organizations.

To make an automatic $10 donation to the Red Cross, text "HAITI" to 90999; the money will be charged directly to your cell phone bill.

To donate $5 via your cellphone to Wyclef Jean's grassroots organization: text "Yele" to 501501.

Seeking Information on Family Members in Haiti

The U.S. State Department says Americans seeking information about family members in Haiti should call 1-888-407-4747 or or 202-647-5225.

The FBI's six guidelines for disaster response giving :

Do not respond to any unsolicited (spam) incoming e-mails, including clicking links contained within those messages.

Be skeptical of individuals representing themselves as surviving victims or officials asking for donations via e-mail or social networking sites.

Verify the legitimacy of nonprofit organizations by utilizing various Internet-based resources that may assist in confirming the group's existence and its nonprofit status rather than following a purported link to the site.

Be cautious of e-mails that claim to show pictures of the disaster areas in attached files because the files may contain viruses. Only open attachments from known senders.

Make contributions directly to known organizations rather than relying on others to make the donation on your behalf to ensure contributions are received and used for intended purposes.

Do not give your personal or financial information to anyone who solicits contributions: Providing such information may compromise your identity and make you vulnerable to identity theft.
