The 60s and 70s: Joan Baez - The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down
This moving song was written by Canadian musician Robbie Robertson and first recorded by The Band in 1969. The most famous rendition was by Joan Baez. This is why.
Baez has one of the most beautiful voices there's ever been.
Two songs sung by Baez can be heard in Silent Running, a science fiction film that is also an early ecological warning tale from 1972. If you haven't seen it... I got a feeling you'd like it.
Her rendition of Forever Young, I'm also particularly fond of.

I haven't seen Silent Running and I'm not real big on sci-fi, but I'll definately try to find this on video - based on your recommendation.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much like everything Baez has done. And certainly Forever Young is at the top of the list along with Sweet Sir Galahad.
