President bigger man than Michael Steele

Forgive and forget, says President Obama about a comment made by Sen. Harry Reid. This was an unfortunate (stupid) comment by a man who probably doesn't have a racist bone in his body and who urged Obama to run for president.

Journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, authors of  "Game Change,"  wrote that Mr. Reid predicted during the 2008 campaign that Mr. Obama could become the country’s first black president because he was “light-skinned” and had “no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”

Michael Steele, probably trying to make up with the GOP, went for the jugular. In an interesting turn of events Steele called for Reid's resignation as U.S. Senate majority leader on "Meet the Press."

In an even more interesting development, Congressman Pete Hoekstra (Wisconsin), who has made a career out of criticizing the president, said on "Face the Nation," "It is a Democrat issue, it is a personal issue -- Republicans ought to stand on the sidelines."

  1. OK! It was a silly comment, but I am with you because I just don't believe Harry Reid is a racist. Now as to Michael Steele, well I doubt he is a racist either, just an idiot!

  3. Steele is just a stooge...sad, pathetic, but true. However, I saw recently where the GOP is mighty tired of him not...well, staying in his place, if you know what I mean. So no, they have ZERO business getting into this discussion, since they did have Caribou Barbie out trying to drum up lynch mobs during the campaign.

I don't think for a minute that Reid thought he was saying anything disparaging... Beyond that, he's an old guy, I can give him a pass.

  5. "I agree he should resign, but for corruption and lying and mutilating the legislative process, not for “insensitivity.”"

Yes, Yes, Yes....and of course if the same 'principles' were in place for the last administration then Cheney would be giving his interviews from a prison.....

  6. Thanks for your comments one and all. With one notable exception, I think we can all agree.

  7. Obama's probably heard enough racist remarks in his time that he can easily tell the difference between a real one and somebody just verbally blundering.

  8. Obviously Steele is a token. If he had any brains at all he never would have taken the job.

  9. I did a post on something like this a long time ago.

Let he/she among who has never said anything insensitive or offensive cast the first stone.

C'mon folks. If we find racism in every offhand remark we make the racists win. That makes all of us bigots. If Chris Rock and Richard Pryor, God rest his soul, can laugh, so can we.

Perhaps the best thing President Obama could have said was "There goes Reid, talkin like a whitey again."

  10. TAO: Guess you told her, huh.

Truth said - Perhaps the best thing President Obama could have said was "There goes Reid, talkin like a whitey again."

Boy wouldn't that give Fox something to pee in their pants about?

  13. Repug Senate candidate: "It's unfortunate that he's representing Nevada that way."

And just what are her thoughts on that other Nevada Senator, who paid large sums of hush money to the former aide/lover and her husband?
