S.C. politics are just flat weird. GOP politics stink like a convention of skunks.
How could an unemployed ex-marine (alleged) raise the $10,400 filing fee to run for the S.C. democratic Senate seat? Alvin Greene didn't campaign but claims he "criss-crossed the state during his campaign—though he declined to specify any of the towns or places he visited or say how much money he spent while on the road."
"It wasn’t much, I mean, just, it was—it wasn’t much. Not much, I mean, it wasn’t much," he said, when asked how much of his own money he spent in the primary. Greene frequently spoke in rapid-fire, fragmentary sentences, repeating certain phrases or interrupting himself multiple times during the same sentence while he searched for the right words
He didn’t show up at the "South Carolina Democratic Party convention in April and didn't file any of the required paperwork for candidates with the state or Federal Election Commission."
James Clyborn (D-SC) House Majority Whip, called for an investigation into the circumstances that led to Alvin Greene winning the Democratic Senate primary.
"There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary," Clyburn said during an appearance on the liberal Bill Press radio show. "I don't know if he was a Republican plant; he was someone's plant."
Greene certainly talks like a Republican and he may even act like one. He's facing a felony charge for allegedly showing obscene photos to a University of South Carolina student.
Welcome to Carolinagate.
I'd take him over Jim DeMint if he believed in Santa Claus.
ReplyDeleteLeslie, it's a wonder. No Dem in SC has a chance against DeMint, so nobody paid attention.
ReplyDeleteI dont even have a clear picture of what the Hell is going on here, but what upset's me .... is I dont know this Guy ... and wonder why he would be showing picture's of me to student's?
ReplyDelete(I'm not working and have nothing better to do)
Later Ms.Leslie! :)
K: I think I'd go fishing.
ReplyDeleteTC: Or the SC Dems are as dumb as the Republicans and simply can't read.
RC: So now you're a porn star?
It's probably Sacha Baron Cohen or Colbert playing a joke. The thing is, how could he have managed the votes?
ReplyDeleteAs I said in my blog this afternoon, it's entirely possible for this story to be true. I even WANT it to be true. Don't you? Young minority veteran returns home, gets upset at lack of opportunity, spends frugally-saved earnings from 13-year Army career on successful retail campaign...
But here's what I'm wondering. How did he get the most votes? Where are his voter testimonials? Why can't these reporters find anyone to talk to besides Mr. Green himself?
Nope Ms.Leslie .... my photo alone can be seen as obsene!
ReplyDeleteMatt: Newsweek reports, "He was arrested in November for allegedly showing obscene Internet photos to a University of South Carolina student, according to the Associated Press. ABCNews says he was kicked out of the Army, too. Now three months after Greene gave them that $10,400 check, South Carolina Democrats have asked him to withdraw from the race."
ReplyDeleteNote that he didn't file the appropriate papers with the state or the FEC.
I think the answer to the questions in your last graph is because no one has ever seen him.
And, as in most things these days, I don't think we can expect much from the MSM.
RC: LOL!
The obvious reason he was criss crossing the State is he on the lam.
ReplyDeleteOlbermann just interviewed him, or at least tried to. The guy stammered and twitched thru the questions not really answering any of them! Something weird is going on!!
ReplyDeleteIf the Republicans or Tea Baggers weren't behind this, I'll run down the street nude. But I think they were and, if so, it shows how stupid they are that they picked someone so pathetic as this guy - maybe they were worried he might win over DeMint! I got the very strong feeling that Greene is probably mentally challenged or mentally ill.
ReplyDeleteAnd to do someting like this - allegedly - just goes to show how far these slinky dogs will go.
Let me be frank here with ya'll .... this gentleman (Greene) couldnt sell a lemmon to a mentally challenged person, not to mention lead a pack of sewer rat's to a new drainage .... I know him better than he know's himself, just from one video ....
ReplyDeleteThis whole thing is a sham, that sell's copy ....
Goodnight Ms.Leslie
He says he got 60% of the votes!!?? God I hope the GOP goes down in flames, they are DUMBER than Greene if this all comes out the way I think it will!!
ReplyDeleteI don’t want to write an essay on Southern politics and the Bible Belt. Suffice it to say that A Democratic candidate doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell in South Carolina. It seems a futile effort to vote, but vote I do.
ReplyDeleteJust as futile asre my snail-mail letters to DeMint and Lindsey Graham, but they get them nonetheless.
In the long run, no Democrat is going to defeat Jim DeMint, who ran for the U.S. senate on an anti-gay, pro-life platform and a proposal to do away with the federal income tax and impose a 23 pecent sales tax nationwide. (His 2004 opponent State Supt. Of Education Inez Tennenbaum said that would have increased taxes for 95 percent of South Carolinians.) There was a big brouhaha over DeMint’s statement that “homosexuals and pregnant women” should not be allowed to teach in public schools (he later apologized for the statement).
So goes South Carolina.
BJ
However he came to be a candidate (and I think he must have had somebody put up the filing fee)and however unqualified he is, the question to me is, how in the world did he get 60% of the vote with no campaigning, no ads, no literature, no campaign appearances.
ReplyDeleteLast night on the local news here in Columbia several of his neighbors were interviewed. They were dropping by to congratulate him and one elderly man said, quite surprised and delighted, "I didn't even know Alvin was running!!" And that from a neighbor!!
I honestly think there was some glitch in the voting machines, they were coded wrong and the votes were actually recorded backwards (flipped) or something. As bizarre as this may seem, to me it seems less bizarre than any other explanation.
Republican pols have consistently demonstrated over the past 30 years that they will do anything to win. Planting a guy like this one seems to be as a Democrat falls well within the definition of anything.
ReplyDeleteSouth Carolina Republicans seem to be vying for the title of Worst of the Worst. A bunch of people in Texas and George ought to be nervous.
Phooey, that "George" should be Georgia.
ReplyDeleteClyburn was saying this has happened before in SC and he has asked for the US attorney office to get involved. Bradblog has been all over this for the last couple days.

Judy: So glad to have you here. I have visited your excellent blog on several occasions and highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I can accept a "glitch" in the voting machines - not all over the entire state. Maybe in one district or two but that would send up some red flags as well. In either case, I'd say the "glitch" was man-made.
If fat-cat Republicans can pay for thousands of Tea Partiers to attend those rallies (buses, food, lodging) and if they can pay them to buy multiple copies of Palin's book, I don't think they'd bat an eye to pull something off like this.
You have a compatriot here in B.J.
RC, Sue and BJ: Didn't mean to bypass you. I hope whatever it is it holds back the election and keeps DeMint out of Congress - at least for awhile.
ReplyDeleteS.W. Not to worry - that's my favorite method of typing! Don't forget Arizona.
Jess: Thanks - I'll check out bradblog. Glad to see you again.
Leslie, it turns out that Greene got more votes in several precincts than the total number of people who voted. The Republican Secretary of State there controls access to the voting machines.
ReplyDeleteVelly interesting, Tom. Thanks. Hee-hee I love to watch these people trip over their own stupidity.
ReplyDeleteThat site that Jess provided is quite good - lots of info.

I ran across Brad's take on it this morning. Recommended read.
